About the show

Lee Tergesen played Chett Donnelly in the half-hour high-school comedy "Weird Science." It's the series Lee was in just before switching gears totally to portray Tobias Beecher in "Oz."

Chett is the older brother of Wyatt Donnelly (played by Michael Manasseri), one of the two leads along with Gary Wallace (John Mallory Asher). The other main character is Lisa (Vanessa Angel), an incredibly brainy babe that Wyatt and Gary generated on the computer to improve their lives and their understanding of girls. Lisa's also a "genie," as she can grant the boys their every wish. However, the wishes always seem to go awry, leading to the bulk of the show's comedy.

The other main source of comedy is Chett. He's loud, he's obnoxious, he loves guns, his jeep and his country. He tortures little brother Wyatt and his friend Gary incessantly. He also has most of the series' best lines and hilarious physical comedy.

The other main factor in the supporting cast is Principal Scampi (who was Assss-istant Principal Scampi when Chett was in high school). Actor Bruce Jarchow plays Scampi, who's often the butt (so to speak) of the boys' jokes.

Other recurring characters are Chett and Wyatt's parents -- Wayne and Marcia Donnelly. They're wealthy, absentee parents who spoil their kids with every material possession. And there's Gary's parents -- Al and Emily Wallace -- a more blue-collar family who dote on Gary (at least his mom does).

Click on the links at right for Chett-centric detail about each show. Many thanks to Anne for providing the write-ups and the Chett Quotient.
