"The Real Jane"
Episode 5.2 - June 30, 2013
Lee Tergesen plays Sid Pinar in this episode of "Drop Dead
Diva."
Sid is a mild-mannered father and mattress salesman who believes
he was wrongfully terminated for dressing like a drag queen.
"Drop Dead Diva" a comedy-drama starring Brooke Elliott as Jane
Bingum, a plus-size lawyer whose body is inhabited by the soul of a
vapid aspiring model, Deb Dobkins.
Deb was killed in a car crash and judged to have contributed
nothing to society, so she is returned to life in the body of a
recently deceased lawyer named Jane Bingum who died protecting her
boss, Jay Parker (Josh Stamberg).
Deb's boyfriend Grayson Kent (Jackson Hurst) is Jane's co-worker,
and her professional rival at the firm is Kim Kaswell (Kate
Levering).
Grayson and Kim take up Sid's court case. It appears that Sid's boss
is angry and disgusted by Sid's dressing as a drag queen while
selling mattresses at his store. Sid argues that the drag queen
persona helps him make sales, and so the boss should be glad rather
than mad. The boss declares that he will only let Sid come back to
work if he drops the drag queen act. Sid refuses and the case goes
to court as he tries to fight what he views as a wrongful
termination.
When Sid takes the stand in full drag and going by the name
Layonna Sheets. He delivers his sultry sales pitch, playing up to
the jury and the whole courtroom. A surreptitious video of the
"performance" goes viral, and it's revealed that case is merely an
attention-getting stunt.
Regardless of the motive, Lee's turn as Layonna is divine!
